Specialist Product Engineer – Expanded Beam Optics

About the role

As a Specialist Product Engineer in 3M’s Expanded Beam Optics business, you will collaborate with global teams to drive product growth, develop new applications, and bring products to market. The role focuses on optimizing optical interconnects and delivering high‑performance solutions for customers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead Product and Process Understanding (PPU) initiatives, including raw material substitution, quality improvement, and cost‑reduction projects, with an emphasis on ferrules.
• Support change‑management processes and validate product performance for design, process, or material changes through test‑plan creation and laboratory execution.
• Maintain product stability by directing improvement projects and design modifications as needed.
• Drive scale‑up activities as a core member of new product introduction teams.
• Own product standards, specifications, and claims substantiation processes.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, global laboratories, and manufacturing sites to ensure seamless product development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher, completed and verified before start date.
• At least seven years of combined product, materials, or process engineering experience in private, public, government, or military settings.
• Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline is a plus.
• Experience in quality, manufacturing, product development, or engineering supporting optical connectors or ferrules.
• Proven ability to scale technologies to large‑scale manufacturing.
